27th Annual Mother’s Day Walk 4 Peace

The 27th Annual Mother's Day Walk for Peace held deep significance for me. Growing up in Roxbury and Dorchester I’ve learned of one too many of my friends or classmates that tragically lost their lives to gun violence.

This walk was led by mothers who have endured the unimaginable loss, but it was a testament to their resilience and unwavering spirit. It was a reminder of the pain that lingers in our communities, and the strength that our mothers have.

As my sister and I walked alongside hundreds of participants, I felt a strong sense of unity. I saw a few familiar faces as well as individuals from all walks of life, standing in solidarity to demand change. It was an empowering display of community, support, and responsibility.

Beyond walking, this event encourages community engagement. Supporters lined the streets, offering encouragement, and local businesses and organizations participated.

Funds were raised through sponsorships and donations that support programs at the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, providing counseling, trauma support, and education for affected families. Additionally, the walk sparked dialogue, advocacy, and policy change to address systemic issues perpetuating violence.

This walk was a deeply moving experience. It allowed me to connect with the pain and strength of mothers who have lost their children to gun violence, and it reaffirmed my commitment to creating a more beautiful future. Special thanks to my sister for inviting me.
